Shag Area Rugs


Who doesn’t like that warm, fuzzy, soft and playful feel of shag area rugs? Shag area rugs are those rugs that come in different shapes, colors and sizes, but share one common characteristic: longer pile (fiber strands) that exhibit that richer, fluffy look.

Shag area rugs are made from different materials, either any of the many synthetic materials or one of the different natural materials. The name shag comes from its shaggy look. Normally, rugs are sheared but shag area rugs aren’t thus maintaining its soft fluffy appearance.

The prices of shag area rugs can range from being very inexpensive to the extremely expensive depending on the material used and the density. There are very small pieces that can be used in the bathroom floor, or placed on top of the toilet water tank cover. Shag rugs can also be cut into the shape of toilet seat and seat cover. Shag area rugs that are used in the bathroom truly give the luxurious feel of your daily private moments.

Shag area rugs can be used in an air conditioned bedroom: the fluffy feeling on your feet seem to be a nice prelude to a good night’s sleep. Why not put a shag area rug in your dresser or in the walk in closet? The rich cushion-like rug will make anybody want to walk barefoot around the house.

Shag area rugs can also be a good conversation piece. A round shag area rug placed in your living room can add a touch of class for your guests to see and feel. If you can’t afford to have the size that can accommodate the seats, buy one that can be placed under the center table with some big throw pillows around the table. Your guests would love to spend time with you seated on the big throw pillows or cross-legged in the shag area rug around the center table with the throw pillows on their laps.

While shag area rugs look and feel beautiful, the drawback is that it may not be quite easy maintaining it. Vacuuming a shag area rug may be a challenged at times, especially if you will use an upright vacuum cleaner because the long pile can be eaten and pulled by the vacuum cleaner. The best material for a shag area rug is wool because wool area rug will repel dirt and soil. But a wool area rug will tend to be costlier than other materials, especially compared to the synthetic nylon area rugs.

If you want to own a shag area rug but aren’t willing to pay for the wool rug, then the best thing to do is to avoid placing your shag area rugs in high traffic areas of the house. One thing is clear though, if you want the look and feel of luxury without paying for the price of wool, shag area rugs, no matter how small they are, can add the touch of classic elegance in any part of your home.
