Exquisite Area Rugs for Your Home

Whether natural or synthetic, contemporary or traditional, knowing what you want within your budget is the first way to save you money. You have a whole house with different rooms to put several area rugs on.
Should you buy the wool area rugs, bamboo area rugs or the ones with the cheapest synthetic fibers? What colors and sizes should you get? Buying area rugs can be very confusing because of the wide array of choices. So, how can you make it simpler?
First, identify which area you want to put the rug on: Will it be an outdoor area rug? Will it be for the bedroom? Maybe the living room? Or your kid’s room? Then, get a measuring tape and get the dimension of the area rug that you actually need. It will be much better if you know the dimensions before actually buying the area rug.

Area Rugs Tips
Make sure that you leave out at least 2 feet of space from the shortest wall of the room to your area rug edge. With enough space for people to walk around the rug, the life span of your area rug will be longer. If you’re putting your area rug at the center of the room, say in a living room, make sure that the distance from the walls to the area rug edge on all sides are equal, with 2 to 3 feet distance from the walls; depending on how much of the floor you want to show.
For the bedrooms, be sure that the area rug is at least ¾ the size of the bed. For dining room, add 4 feet to the dimension of the dining table so as to accommodate the chairs even when they are pulled out from the table.
Second, choose the material that is best for your room. What are the things that you need to consider?

Area Rugs Care and Maintenance
Are you the type who would like to make cleaning much easier? Bamboo area mats are easy to maintain while fiber materials need vacuuming and washing. Are you willing to wash your area mats very often? The usual maintenance would be to vacuum the area rug at least once a week. Doing it twice a week is even better. You can sprinkle some baking soda on the area mat and leave on for a few minutes before vacuuming to freshen it up a little.
You can also put small area rugs inside a pillowcase and use the washing machine to do the cleaning wonders for you. Be sure that you don’t put in other mats or rugs together since some materials bleed. Just don’t use the dryer because even if the fiber may be heat resistant, the lining might be weakened by the heat. Another tip is not to put your area rug in direct sunlight. Without proper care and maintenance, your area rug may not give your room the look and feel that you want for span of time that you expect for the price that you paid for it.
Area Rugs Longevity
The things to consider include both the material/s used and how the area rug is made. Generally speaking, there are three considerations in the manner of how area rugs are constructed: density, twist and fiber. The denser the material is made, the longer is the life span of the area rug. The tighter the twist, the more durable it is. The natural fibers normally offer longer life span too.
Monetary Budget
Natural fibers with the right construction and padding are good choices but are sold at higher price. If budget can be a real concern, consider lower maintenance synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers offer more colorful designs at lower cost. If you’re going for synthetic fibers, you can consider looking at the density, twist and the pad for longevity.

Colors and Design of Area Rugs
Color affects the mood. So, in choosing the color and design of area rugs, there are two major considerations: your personality and the look of the room. Are you the vibrant fun-loving type? Or do you want a zen-like room with simple clean lines? Red, orange and black with abstract designs can be a good rug for a party person and for rooms that complement the colors. While black and white are neutral colors that can blend in any set of furniture.
If you are using rugs to separate different sections of a large room, you can choose different rugs with either same colors or same shapes. Having area rugs with different designs will define the different areas. But since they are sharing the same large rooms, it is important to note that they should have some shapes or colors that tie them up together. Natural fibers include wool, bamboo, jute, cotton. While synthetic fibers will include nylon and polypropylene or olefin.
Whatever your budget is, the mood that you want to experience or the style of your living space that you want to project, an area rug will be one of the most important purchases that you will ever make for your home. Small as it may seem, it will serve a decor that will liven up your room for many, many years, if you know how to choose the right one for your home.
