Area rugs are great accessories to a room; it can change the feel of the room by just putting area rugs. Aside from the different types and design, area rugs are made from wide array of materials which can be confusing to choose from.

Area rugs with synthetic material like Nylon and Polypropylene.
These materials used for area rugs are more durable because they can come as water resistant and UV resistant. They can be use for out door. Nylon has higher quality than Polypropylene because it does not flatten easily and does not fade in color fast. Area rugs made from these materials are also cheaper.
Natural area rugs like cotton, wool, silk and other plant based fibers.
Cotton – Cotton Area Rugs are cheaper than the other natural fiber area rugs. It is easy to clean, most of the time it is machine washable. The downside is that area rugs made from cotton are quick to wear and tear and easy to stain.
Wool – area rugs made from wool are very durable and good for high foot traffic area like entrance hall and hall ways. If the area rugs are crushed due to the high foot traffic, you just fluff them by vacuuming regularly. Area rugs made from wool can last for many years, which is why it’s pricier than the other materials.
Silk – area rugs made from silk has a luxurious feel but I can be quite delicate and also pricey. You can use area rugs made from silk as an accent to an oriental furnished room.
Jute, bamboo and sisal – If you want to go green and eco-friendly, go for these materials. The fiber from these materials are made from renewable resources. Area rugs made from these materials can be use either indoor or outdoor. If you want your area to have a feel of oriental or minimalist, you may use bamboo area rugs. They are priced moderately and does not retain water if you use it outdoor but the downside is that they are hard to clean and with heavy use, they can’t last for long.
